Convert to Islam is a mandatory step for a man wishing to marry a Muslim woman. The opposite is not true. A non-Muslim woman can marry a Muslim man on condition that it is part of one of the three religions of the Koran (Christian, Jewish or Muslim).

To convert, it's easy. You must visit a adoul (similar to a notary) and provide the necessary documents for conversion. It will then fill out a record containing information of your passport (passport number, your name, address, date of birth, full names of your parents, etc. ...). This is the part purely administrative.

Then adoul, asked me if I knew Jesus and Moses and if I knew who they étaitent. No need to read the Koran, you just need to recognize that they are prophets.

Finally, he reminded me of the five pillars of Islam:

1 - shahada or profession of faith that you just made.
2 - Al-salat : prayer five times a day
3 - Al-Zakat : alms for the poor (if you have the means).
4 - Al-sawm : fasting during the month of Ramadan.
5 - Al-Hajj : pilgrimage to Mecca for those who can afford it.

For those wondering, a good Muslim is one that respects the five pillars adoul but still asked me if I would pray. I simply answered him that I would try.

Application of capacity to marry.

That's the first task in this long quest for union. The certificate of capacity to marry (CCM) is a mandatory document for any citizen wishing to marry a person of Moroccan nationality. How to get it?

First, you must make an appointment Consulate General of France in which your future spouse. It was for Mounia Fes and me. The first obstacle arises in you because of delays in obtaining appointments are relatively long. For my part, I asked my date March 7, 2008 and the first available date was July 24 which is four and a half months later.

The appointment: You must first complete a document to retrieve from the website of your consulate. This document will provide the day of your interview (see below).

After our long wait, we finally turn to the person in charge of our case. We arrived at a counter where someone was waiting for us. Do not rely on the confidentiality of your information as a second person dealing with another couple next to us. We begin by asking ourselves questions about the circumstances of our meeting (date, place, context) and then individually, we are asked more details about our personal situation. For me the person asked me if I was already out with Mounia and which of us had decided the marriage. She then warned Mounia the fact that I was a student without calling into question our feelings. We were very surprised by this conversation because we were warned that questions would be more sophisticated than that. Examples of questions that you may encounter:

Name of parents and siblings and their date of birth
Height, weight, shoe size, waist spouse
Tastes Culinary spouse, passions, hobbies etc. ...
Phone number (by heart) the spouse
Your Spouse Has family in France?

etc. ...

Issuance of document: In theory, the average time is 8 weeks knowing that you can either come to withdraw from the consulate or receive from you by mail. For my part, I have received after 8 weeks and 2 days of waiting. Nevertheless, the period may be longer in some cases. This delay is due to the fact that the file is sent to the town hall of your residence in France from which the banns are published (display for ten days at the entrance your local authority) and then return the file to the consulate before final submission of the CCM.

Here is a copy of the certificate of publication of banns in the town hall. This document is not mandatory but it reflects the way your case in the hands of the civil service.

Here sesame as expected. In all, between the demand for appointments and receiving the document, it took six months and a half.

For the future spouse of Moroccan nationality

a complete copy of the birth older than three months, if it is established in Arabic, its translation into French by a translator accredited by the Consulate General of France in Rabat.
a certificate of celibacy + translation if issued in Arabic
legalized or a certified copy of the divorce for the divorced established by the court which pronounced the divorce.
a copy of the death certificate for widows and widowers.
a residence certificate with a translation if necessary.
a photocopy of the national identity card
a photocopy of the passport (the first three pages and all those with the stamps of entry and exit the country)
three recent passport photos
a complete copy of the booklet of the parents

NB medical certificate is no longer necessary since 1 January 2008 to obtain a certificate of capacity to marry.

For the future spouse of French nationality

a complete copy of the birth older than three months
proof of French nationality : national identity card, Certificate of French nationality, decree of naturalization or reinstatement, recorded statement French nationality.
a photocopy of the passport (the first six pages and all those with the stamps of entry and exit the country)
three recent passport photos
a complete copy of the booklet of the parents
proof of address : rent receipt, utility bill, notarized sworn statement by the mayor of your home, etc. ...
minor: parental consent (signed by both parents before a notary or registrar)

You can attach a document showing your relationship with your spouse:

Telephone bills with detailed list of calls to Morocco
Photocopy of your discussions MSN (for me it was over 1000 pages, I have therefore put on a USB key, ready to use it if the need was presented).
your engagement photos
Your air tickets of your previous trips to Morocco .

Steps for a wedding Franco-Moroccan

Soon I will marry my beloved Oujda (Oujda resident). Knowing that more and more French are found in my case, I propose to recapitulate the various steps undertaken in this long and tedious process of marriage Franco-Moroccan.
